Abstract

Urban Green Space (UGS) plays a vital role in improving the quality of life in urban areas. Urban parks, a key type of UGS, serve as both recreational spaces and tourist destinations. However, the potential of urban parks in Samarinda City remains underutilized. This study analyzes the potential of UGS, particularly urban parks, as recreational facilities and alternative tourist destinations in Samarinda. It focuses on five parks located in the city’s most populous subdistricts, evaluating indicators such as recreational attractions, facilities and infrastructure, accessibility, and safety. The findings reveal that Teras Samarinda ranks highest, meeting all assessed criteria for recreational attractions. Edu Park follows, fulfilling all indicators despite being under development. Segiri Park and Samarendah Park meet most criteria but lack in safety aspects. Teluk Lerong Garden, however, shows significant deficiencies, particularly in safety and facility maintenance. Overall, urban parks in Samarinda hold considerable potential as recreational and tourist spaces but require
improvements in safety, maintenance, and infrastructure to maximize their benefits. The study recommends that the government enhance park management and maintenance while involving the community in sustaining these green spaces. Such efforts would make the parks more visitor-friendly and supportive of the local tourism sector.
