Abstract

The abundance of inorganic waste in the form of plastic beverage cups is due to the rise of beverage MSMEs, and the large number of fruit shops in Samarinda also adds to the abundance of inorganic waste in the form of styrofoam. Inorganic waste is very difficult to decompose so it can cause environmental problems and improper management such as burning also has an impact on the environment such as air pollution which harms health or the ozone layer. One alternative solution to this problem is a hydroponic plant cultivation system by utilizing used inorganic waste as a container for growing crops. This is also a solution to the lack of agricultural land in urban areas. This research aims to apply environmentally friendly technology that utilizes agricultural land resources that is easy to apply in urban communities and reduces environmental problems caused by inorganic waste, especially used drinking glasses and styrofoam, supports the zero waste movement and supports food security. Hydroponics is carried out using a simple technique, namely the capillary method using a wick using used drinking glasses, styrofoam and burnt husks as a planting medium for Scallions (Allium fistulosum L.). The process is carried out from preparation of the hydroponic installation and planting media, nutrient solution, planting, maintenance to harvesting after 50 days after planting The results of the research resulted in faster growth and planting time for scallions and very good quality that stood up straight using roasted husk media combined with Abmix nutrients. The scallions at 50 days after planting was 50 cm. The number of scallions produced at 50 days after planting was 4.
